News from First Congregational Church
an Open and Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ

Happy Easter!

Reading for this week: John 20:19-31
When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked in fear, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

It seems strange to be leaving right when Jesus is showing up, but what better time could there be? Thank you for trusting me with what is most sacred in your lives. Thank you for blessing my life with the exuberant joys and restless worries of a year in the life of faith. Perhaps these words from 1 Thessalonians 3:9 will suffice: “How can I thank God enough for you in return for all the joy I have in the presence of our God because of you?” In the end, it is always best to rely on the words of Jesus: “Peace be with you.”

Vacation Bible Camp will be the week of June 20. We will be traveling back into the past to meet some important biblical people and a few not so average people who bravely stood up for justice in more modern times. VBC registration forms will be available during coffee starting this Sunday. Please stop by the VBC table to register or to volunteer.  VBC Wish lists will be out soon.

Linda is out of the office this week and will return on  April 4. Patty Edwards is answering phones, picking up the mail, opening the building, moving clothes, and greeting everyone cheerfully.

Devotional or inspirational reading and prayer for our church family.

Life You Have
 by Mark Nepo.

Thursdays 8:15-9:30
Bible Journeys
Lively, curious reading and conversation about what’s in the Bible, what’s not, and what it all means for the world today.

We have started reading Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi by Amy Jill Levine. â€œThis is probably the best book on parables available today: brief, informative, witty, and very interesting.” says Mark Allan Powell, editor of the HarperCollins Bible Dictionary.
