Sermon excerpt: On this first Sunday of Lent, we set out into a landscape of emptiness. We make up our minds to leave some things behind. We try to clear out some of the clutter in our lives to make more room for the Holy Spirit. Challenges await, but as we open ourselves to all that is before our eyes, we will find the path along the rocky way. As we loosen our grip and our striving settles, we will be freed from a need to achieve glory, and learn to appreciate that it is all around. My prayer is that we will sit in the emptiness long enough to see its fullness. May we trudge along on the plodding path long enough to see it light our way ahead.
