Sometimes the sermon is a heady or deep reflection on a complicated text. And sometimes it’s a chance to play, and a time when, well, nothing goes as expected. What you need to know to listen to this sermon is that we recently refurbished our organ, which has a list of 264 Theater Organ settings like “seashore” and “thunderstorm.” So, our organist Jeremy and I decided to play with it for our All Family Worship this week. It seemed like a good idea at the time – our youngest disciples would be in worship with us, so why not surprise everyone with a sermon with sound effects? The results were, well, hilarious.

Today’s sermon on plugging in to thin spaces is available here. It was a reminder for all of us that things rarely go as planned, so thank God we’re in community together where we can laugh and our choir can fill in the blanks.
