Today’s sermon is on a hard text. We have committed to covering the Sermon on the Mount, so we faced in to this text as we face in to all scripture: with curiosity and hope, and faith that God will speak to our modern ears with these ancient and holy words.
Also, if you’re listening from away, you need to know that we’re getting a huge snowstorm here in Maine – feet of snow in the next 24 hours! So, some snow stories snuck in, too.
The poem included in this sermon is by Marilyn Maciel, titled “Clothesline.” It’s published in Patti Digh, “Life is a Verb: 37 Days to Wake Up, Be Mindful, And Live Intentionally.” (Roman & Littlefield, 2008), 42.
The quotation by Karoline Lewis is from “Choose Life,” by Karoline Lewis, posted in Dear Working Preacher at http://www.workingpreacher.org, 2/5/2017.
